Is Cupping Dangerous?

Cupping Therapy can look quite intimidating at first.  On the contrary, cupping is very safe.  I have treat thousands of people and I have never had a patient suffer any type of issue.  Please follow the pre and the post treatment instructions.  The only patients who might be at risk are anemic patients and patients on blood thinners.  If you are suffering these conditions it is better to get these conditions under control before proceeding with Cupping.

Is Cupping Painful?

Cupping is mildly discomforting.  For the first 60 seconds you will feel the cups pulling on your muscles and this can be quite uncomfortable but it is tolerable.  After a minute the discomfort will start to subside.  After afew minutes I apply very light incisions on the cupping site.  I have a very light hand and the incisions are meant to be as painless ans possible.  The idea is to create very light cuts that allow the septic substances to be released from the body.  The practitioner should not be hacking you up.  There should be no visible deep cuts and no visible scarring should occur post procedure.

Are There Any Side Effects?

There are afew mild side effects to cupping therapy:-

  • Blood loss and in rare cases anemia.
  • Bruising.
  • Marks.
  • Pain and discomfort for several days.
  • Tiredness and sleepiness.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Swelling.
  • Mild bleeding.
What If I Get Light Headed During Procedure?

This means you’re blood pressure is dropping.  Normally what we do is release the cups, lie you on your back and lift your legs till your blood pressure returns.  These are very rare instances.

How Long Does The Procedure Last?

How long is a piece of string?  On average, a patient can take from 30 mins to 1 hour depending on the amount of toxins being released and the amount of cups we use.

I Have A Medical Condition. Can I Still Get Cupping Done?

Depends.  All patients are required to fill out an application form before we assess whether they are a potential candidate.

How Often Can I Get Cupping Done?

As much as you need to get it done.  You will see significant improvements after 1 treatment but you may need several treatments.

How Much Do You Charge?

We charge £40 per session.  We don’t count the number of cups we use neither do we charge extra to use many cups.  We use as many cups as the patient needs and we offer a no rush service.  If the patient is still drawing toxins we will continue to place the cups back on the patient until the clotted blood stops.  We understand as experts in this field that if a patient has not drawn toxins from “all” the affected areas, the patient will continue to suffer ailments.  This is why it is important to go to someone who knows what they are doing!

Can I Eat Before Getting Cupping Done?

Yes.  There is no issue with eating just don’t eat too much and avoid dairy products.

What Do I Do Post Op?

Avoid sexual activity for the first night.  Avoid dairy products as these can cause re-clotting in very rare cases.  Avoid strenuous physical activities such as running, football, gym etc.  You can shower after the procedure, however, we recommend you apply some anti bacterial ointment on the wounds to prevent an infection.  We have never had a patient develop any infection post op.  The cuts are very feint and generally do not create a breeding ground for infections but in case this happens we suggest you follow post op protocol and It’s always best to contact your physician for help regarding this particular issue.

What Do I Do Pre-Treatment?

If you have any hairy areas on your skin you need to remove the hair before coming.  We cannot guarantee we can treat you if you have too much hair on the treatment areas.  You can have a light meal before coming but just avoid dairy.  Come in clothing that is easily removable so we can treat the affected area.

What About The Sunnah Days?

In our opinion the Hadith regarding doing Hijama on the 17th, 19th and 21st is very weak.  We will expound upon this in an article but to sum it up, there is medical and historical evidence that doing Hijama towards the end of the month is more effective but there is no Saheeh Hadith to support this.  The Hadeeth are all weak, but this doesn’t mean that it has no validity.  If you have many weak narrations this can take the narrations up to Hasan Li Ghayrihi.  Cupping is beneficial at all times in our opinion.

Do You Do Fire Cupping?

No.  I see little benefit to fire cupping  over using plastic cups.

Do You Re-Use Cups?

Hell no!  It can cause diseases and it is extremely dangerous.

Do You Re-Use Pumps?

Hell no!  Blood gets trapped in the pumps.  Doing so will cause people to become ill by spreading blood and disease.

Do You Treat Males And Females?

Yes, we have a female practitioner to treat females and I treat males.

What Should I Wear?

Avoid wearing jeans. Try and wear some loose clothing that is easily removed.
